DiamondHead Beach Resort & Spa Is Honored With ConventionSouth’s Annual Readers’ Choice Award

October 28th, 2013

ConventionSouth Readers Choice AwardGULF SHORES, Ala. (Oct. 22, 2013)—It is with honor that the publishers and editors of ConventionSouth, the national multimedia resource for planning events in the South, present DiamondHead Beach Resort & Spa with a 2013 Readers’ Choice Award.

“ConventionSouth readers and fans have voted to decide the best meeting sites in the South, and it is no surprise to us that DiamondHead Beach Resort & Spa has been selected to receive our annual Readers’ Choice Award,” said ConventionSouth Publisher J. Talty O’Connor. “The value in receiving this prestigious recognition is that it comes from the United States’ top meeting professionals who hold events in the South. These planners demand the highest level of customer service and quality facilities, and they have contributed in determining that DiamondHead Beach Resort & Spa indeed displays the commitment to professionalism, creativity and service that they require.”

DiamondHead Beach Resort & Spa is among 150 convention and visitor bureaus (CVBs), meeting facilities and hotels located across the South to receive this year’s Readers’ Choice Award. Throughout the year, meeting professionals nominated the meeting sites they believe provide exemplary service for group events. The nominated sites are then compiled onto an online ballot where meeting professionals and fans are asked to vote for the best of the best. More than 6,500 voters participated this year in the selection process – the highest vote count ever recorded.

Since creation in 2001, this is the second time that DiamondHead Beach Resort & Spa has received the award, making it an even greater honor to present it with a 2013 Readers’ Choice Award.DiamondHead Beach Resort & Spa will be featured as an award recipient in the December 2013 Awards Issue of ConventionSouth magazine. This exciting issue will also showcase some of the most talented meeting professionals in the nation as ConventionSouth also presents planners with its annual “Meeting Professionals To Watch” designation. “Featuring peer advice and trade secrets from our Meeting Professionals to Watch in 2014, our Awards Issue is one of the most popular must-read resources within the meetings industry,” O’Connor said.

Celebrating over 30 years as a leading meeting planning resource, ConventionSouth magazine is based in Gulf Shores, Ala., and is distributed to more than 18,000 meeting professionals located across the country who book meetings held within the South, according to O’Connor.

The Fort Myers Beach Mound House

September 17th, 2013

mound house fort myers beach

When driving over the Fort Myers Beach Bridge you see brightly colored hotels, unique shops and lively restaurants. Everything looks shiny and new, but if you know where to look, visitors can experience the historic side of Fort Myers Beach. If you know where to look you’ll discover the oldest standing structure on the island, which happens to sit on an ancient Calusa Indian shell mound. If you know where to look you’ll discover the Fort Myers Beach Mound House.

History

The Mound House is Estero Island’s oldest standing structure. The building first started out as a Tudor style home constructed by William and Milia Case in 1906. The modest home grew and changed over the years starting in 1909, then again in 1921 and again when it was owned by William and Florence Long in 1951 to 1994. The Town of Fort Myers Beach acquired the Mound House from the Long Estate in 2000 and is currently in the process of restoring the house to its 1921 grandeur with grant assistance from the Florida Department of State Division of Historical Resources.

July 25th, 2013

Fort Myers Beach

Life slows down when you’re on Fort Myers Beach. The island lifestyle washes over you and the only thing that matters is relaxing and spending time with friends and family. It truly is a beach paradise.

If you are a newcomer to Fort Myers Beach or would like to know what the best activities on Fort Myers Beach are, we have created a list of our top 5 things to do while visiting the area. Beaches, boating, sunsets, seafood, and fishing—how do you want to spend your vacation? Hopefully this list will help you plan your vacation so that you’ll take advantage of everything Southwest Florida has to offer.

Top 5 Things To Do On Fort Myers Beach

#5 Shelling

Fort Myers Beach Shelling

Fort Myers Beach is a shelling heaven! Thanks to the island’s geography and the gentle Gulf waves, seashells of all shapes and sizes are washed up on the beaches. They arrive daily, mostly fully intact and ready for you to take home as souvenirs. Some shells you might come across include; fighting conchs, horse conchs, corkscrew-shaped augers, calico scallops, starfish, banded tulips, sand dollars and many many more.  Here is a great story from Pam of iLoveShelling.com about her shelling experience on the beach behind GullWing Beach Resort and Pointe Estero Beach Resort. All you have to do is grab a shell bag, hit the beach and keep your eyes on the sand!

DiamondHead Beach Resort Guest Reviews

Amazing Experience
Our family comes to the beach several times a year and we always stay at Diamond head. The staff is superb and atmosphere is so relaxing. We had dinner with colleagues at Chloes and loved it! Everyone left full and extremely satisfied! Lots of activities for the kids and walking distance to Fort Myers beach Time square and the pier! I hope you love it as much as we do!

Great all around hotel
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Pointe Estero Resort for a romantic weekend, and it was just that. The rooms were super clean and updated. The bed was very comfortable and everything was well maintained. The resort itself was actually on the beach and just a short walk from the water. We had a partial gulf/beach view and it was perfect. We had a beautiful wrap around balcony to watch the sunset from. The staff at the front desk was extremely knowledgeable about dining and other events in the area. Definitely recommend this resort and will certainly be back!

Great place with great waitress at pool and poolside bar
Stay at DiamondHead several times a year on Ft. Myers Beach. The resort is wonderful, right on the beach with great accomodations and great service. The pool area is fantastic and Cabana’s (the pool bar and grill) is great. The food is outstanding and always fresh. Reasonably priced as well. Janet, our waitress all week was absolutely wonderful. Very attentive and always made sure our glasses were always full. She anticipated our needs very well. We go to DiamondHead as a staycation since we live nearby, and every time we have had Janet as our waitress she has been wonderful. Kudo’s to DiamondHead for having such a friendly, fantastic server!!!! Can’t wait for our next visit!!!!

One of the Best Hotels in Fort Myers Beach
This Resort Hotel is one of the nicest we have stayed at on Fort Myers Beach. My family has vacationed here for over 25 years. The rooms, pool, beach, staff and accommodations are great. We plan to return our next trip to FMB.

Another wonderful trip to the beach
I stayed at the hotel a few years ago and was hoping the trip would live up to the same experience we had last time- and it did! The hotel is RIGHT on the beach (so that for those with small children, you can take your children to the bathroom in your room, it’s that convenient.) The pool is also right on the beach and it is a great place for everyone in the family to swim and relax. I enjoyed the fact that you can rent umbrellas and chairs and charge it to your room. The dining facilities – especially at the very casual and “beachy” Cabanas”- are great for kids and adults. The water in the Gulf is very calm so we had no problem with the little kids swimming. All in all, another wonderful trip to the beach at DiamondHead!
